Gameweek 6 Review

We had another phenomenal weekend of Premier League football. Without further ado let’s get into the reviews :

Southampton vs Bournemouth

We welcomed back Friday Night football with a trip to St. Mary’s Stadium. Both teams had won their last games and weren’t looking to slow down now. Here’s what happened :

Min 10, corner in from the right  by Diego Rico who finds the leaping head of Nathan Aké who finds the back of the net. 0-1

Min 35, Billing makes a great run down the left hand side of the pitch, cuts the ball back to Harry Wilson who fires across the goalkeeper and into the back of the net. 0-2

Min 53, Che Adams is brought down in the box by Cook. Ward-Prowse steps up and hammers it past Ramsdale, keeper no chance. 1-2

Min 94, terrible defensive mishap by Southampton as goalkeeper Angus Gunn clashes with Bednarek and the ball falls to Callum Wilson who taps it into the empty net. 1-3

This one surprised me, Southampton really missed last week’s goal scorer Djenepo who was out with a muscle injury. They didn’t look very threatening in front of goal and defended poorly.

Correct result, Bournmeouth have now won their last three games 3-1.

Leicester City vs Tottenham

The weekend started off with a banger. Both teams with great goal scoring potential and if it wasn’t for VAR we would have had more goals.

Min 29, great ball to Harry Kane, who’s tripped in the box but manages to keep going and somehow pokes it past Kasper Schmeichel before falling on the floor. 0-1

Min 69, Vardy finds himself on the left of the goal, speculative low cross to the far post that finds Pereira who puts it past Gazzaniga. 1-1

Min 85, Choudhury finds Maddison on the edge of the box who picks up the ball and only has one thing in mind, fires the ball hard and low to the keeper’s right. Great strike. 2-1

This wazs a great game with VAR disallowing goals for both teams, overall I thought a draw would have been a fair result but a great piece of quality in the dying minutes was enough to separate the sides.

Burnley vs Norwich

I went into this one expecting high flying Norwich to pick up three points. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Burnley were brilliant and they scored two but could have had a lot more. Norwich also had they’re chances and had they been a bit more clinical we could have seen a completely diferent result.

Min 10, Westwood with a great corner into the near post to find Chris Wood who heads home. 1-0

Min 14, McNeil finds the end line and puts a low cross into the path of Chris Wood who fires the ball past Tim Krul. 2-0

Overall an entertaining game with both sides having lots of chances, the game could have had a lot more goals but it came down to Burnley’s finishing being better and picking up all three points. Fair result.

Everton vs Sheffield United

I went into this one with very little doubt in my mind of who would be taking home the three points. Everton were unbeaten in 6 home games, another stat that maybe I hadn’t paid enough attention to was that Sheffield United were unbeaten in 11 away games. Let’s get into it :

Min 40, Norwood delivers a great corner into the 6 yard box, and the ball bounces of an unaware Yerri Mina and into his own net. 0-2

Min 79, Lundstrom with a brilliant through ball to Mousset who has a tight angle ut manages to nutmeg Pickford to extend Sheffield Utd’s lead. 0-2

Well that was an upset, Everton deserved to win, but they just weren’t good enough in front of goal, Sheffield United defended well and rode their luck at times. Undeserved win to be honest but the best team doesn’t always win.

Man City vs Watford

Well, erm, this was men vs boys from min 1, literally. Here’s the review, it’s a long one :

Min 1, De Bruyne with a great ball in from the right, finds David Silva who has a tap in. What a start. 1-0

Min 7, the ball is going out of play but Foster decides to try and be a hero, brings down Mahrez, penalty for City. Agüero steps up and puts the ball straight down the middle. Agüero’s 100th goal at home for City. 2-0

Min 12, Mahrez brought down on the edge of the box. Mahrez steps up to take the freekick, massive deflection off the head of Cleverley straight past Foster. 3-0

Min 15, corner in by De Bruyne, Otamendi heads on, straight to the head of an unmarked Bernardo Silva who heads it home. 4-0

Min 17, David Silva with a quick free kick to Agüero who has an easy pass to Otamendi who taps it into the back of the net. 5-0

Min 48, poor clearence by Hughes, who gives it to David Silva in the box, brilliant skill from the Spaniard to find Bernardo Silva who puts it past Foster. 6-0

Min 60, once again, De Buyne is free on the wing, great ball across by the Belgian, finds Bernardo Silva who scuffs the first shot, but the ball comes back to him and he puts it home. Hattrick for the Portugese international. 7-0

Min 85, Mahrez finds De Bruyne on the edge of the box who cuts inside and smashes it past Foster with a brilliant finish. 8-0

Okay, to say City were angry after last week’s defeat is an understatment, they absolutely tore into Watford, and were brilliant, what a side Pep has.

On the other hand, Watford looked terrible, no motivation or organization, they need to change something or they are in the Championship next season.

Newcastle vs Brigton

This game had my lowest expectations of the weekend if i’m honest, two teams struggling for goals, and this game was the perfect example of that, let’s get into the review :

Crickets…

The game had few chances and few saves, was generally uneventful and the result was correct. Both sides need to shake things up in the attacking department or they will struggle for points this season.

Crystal Palace vs Wolves

Our first Sunday game kicked off with two sides in the bottom half of the table. Wolves have only managed 3 points from 5 games and Crystal Palace had managed 7, I was favouring the hosts going into this one :

Min 48, McArthur lays the ball off to Ward who smashes the ball hard and low, the ball bounces of Dendoncker past Patricio. 1-0

Min 94, late drama at Selhurst Park, Traore with a great ball in, big defensive mistake by Ward that leaves the ball to Jota for a tap in 1-1

Palace were better throught the 90 min’s but one mistake cost them dearly. Ward really was a hero and a villain in this one.

Wolves just don’t look like the side they did last season, hoping Nino Espirito Santo can figure it out. Not the fairest of results ad I believe Palace should have picked up all three points.

West Ham vs Man Utd

Our second Sunday game brought a tasty fixture between West Ham and Man Utd, with Man Utd managing to pick up a win in their last outing the game was very balanced going in :

Min 44, great passing by West Ham that ends with Yarmalenko volleying past De Gea. 1-0

Min 84, freekick on the edge of the box for West Ham. Cresswell finds the top corner with a brilliant free-kick. 2-0

West Ham deserved it, they were better than United from the kick-off. Mata had a great chance and so did Maguire but if United had come away from this game with anything it would have been undeserved.

United lost Rashford to injury in the 61st minute and looked incredibly toothless in front of goal. Really should have replaced Lukaku.

West Ham look a great side and I could definitely see them getting a Europa League spot.

Arsenal vs Aston Villa

Our third Sunday fixture saw Arsenal go up against Aston Villa. With Arsenal being held to a draw against bottom of the table Watford an upset could have been on the cards. I didn’t think so, but still, here’s what happened :

Min 20, great ball in by El Ghazi who picks out the unmarked run of John McGinn who pokes it past Leno. 0-1

Min 59, Engels trips Guendouzi in the box. Arsenal penalty. Pepe steps up for his first Arsenal goal. Cool finish down the middle past Heaton. 1-1

Min 60, Grealish with some fantastic individual play, he dribbles down the right hand side of the goal and puts it on a plate for Wesley. Fantastic individual play by Grealish. 1-2

Min 81, Chambers cross is blocked, bounces back to him and he pokes it over Heaton. 2-2

Min 84, Aubamyeang with a great free-kick from the edge of the box. 3-2

Well, almost I guess, Arsenal went down to ten after 41 minutes but really showed some resiliance to come back and win it.

Villa shouldn’t be to worried, they played really well and just came up short. Chin up lads!

Fair result, no complaints.

Chelsea vs Liverpool

This was the most anticipated game of the weekend, at least for me. It didn’t let me down. Here’s what happened :

Min 14, free-kick on the edge of the box for Liverpool, Salah lays it off for Alexander-Arnold who smashes the ball into the top corner past Kepa. 0-1

Min 30, free kick on the left side of the Chelsea box, great ball whipped in by Robertson to the head of Firmino who headed it into the back of the net. 0-2

Min 71, Kanté with a great bit of dribbling on the edge of the Liverpool box and manages to get off an amazing shot into the top corner. 1-2

Great game, great back and forth between the sides with Liverpool showing how good they are defensively during the last 20 minutes.

Chelsea will feel hard done by with VAR disallowing one of their goals for an offside.

Liverpool continue their perfect start and look the team to beat this season.

Maybe a bit harsh on Chelsea, with a draw seeming a bit fairer to me.
