Gameweek 7 Review

We had another phenomenal weekend of Premier League football. Without further ado let’s get into the reviews :

Sheffield United vs Liverpool

We opened up the weekend of fixtures with Sheffield United vs Liverpool. The Blades have been in great form recently picking up three points away at Everton. Liverpool were hoping to keep their 100% record going. Here’s what went down :

Min 70, what a mistake by Henderson! Wijnaldum with a tame volley from the edge of the box straight at Henderson who fumbles it into his own net. 1-0 Liverpool.

Liverpool looked a bit insecure at the back and Sheffield United had a few chances to equalise, ultimately a mistake decided this game, good game from both sides but the correct team won this one.

AFC Bournemouth vs West Ham United

This one pitched two high flying teams against each other, and with an average of over 3 goals a game the hopes were high :

Min 10, ball in by Anderson great touch by Haller to Yarmolenko who turns Aké and curls it into the back of the net. 0-1

Min 17, Rico with a great ball into the box that bounces of Aké and falls to King who volleys home. The linesmen flag was up but VAR correctly overruled the decision. 1-1

Min 46, Just 26 seconds after the restart, great bit of skill by Solanke who lays it off to King who pokes it to Callum Wilson who fires low and past Roberto. 2-1

Min 74, Yarmolenko with a great ball to the far post to find Anderson who knocks it back to Cresswell who volleys home with a great finish 2-2

This was a great game, injury worry for West Ham as Fabianski pulled a muscle and had to be subbed off, but apart from that the game was very equal and both teams pretty much deserved a point.

Aston Villa vs Burnley

Both teams came into this one in need of three points having each picked up one win in their last five games. Here’s how the game went down :

Min 33, great cross in from the right, finds El Ghazi who volleys it across Pope and into the back of the net. 1-0

Min 68, great play by Pieters who manages to cross the ball to Rodriguez who heads past Heaton. 1-1

Min 79, Trezeguet with a great cross to the second post that finds an unmarked John McGinn who makes it 2-1

Min 81, Another cross this one with Matthew Lowton who puts it on a plate for Chris Wood who evens things up. 2-2

I thought Villa deserved the points in this one, they didn’t take their chances and conceded late on. Both teams need to do a bit better this season and Villa especially having spent so much money in the summer.

Chelsea vs Brighton

I saw this as a great chance for Chelsea and Frank Lampard to get their first points at the Bridge, Brighton would try their hardest to spoil the party. Here’s the blow by blow :

Min 50, defensive mistake by Webster who’s touch is poor and lets in Mount, Webster brings him down, penalty! Jorginho steps up and puts it past Ryan. 1-0

Min 75, great dribbling by Willian down the right hand side of the pitch, fires a shoot that takes a massive deflection of Burn sending the keeper the wrong way. 2-0

It could have been more, it should have been more, Chelsea had so many chances in this one and looked in fine form, they get a deserved three points for me.

Crystal Palace vs Norwich City

I expected an even one here with Crystal Palace drawing at home vs Wolves and Norwich losing to Burnley in their last game, both teams would be looking to get back on form with three points. Here’s how it went :

Min 21, terrible challenge in the box by Amadou on McArthur. Penalty. Milivojevic steps up and puts it into the top corner past Fährmann. 1-0

Min 90+1, brilliant individual play by Zaha who picks out Townsend on the edge of the box, he scuffs his shot to the keeper’s left but still manages to find the bottom corner. 2-0

This was by far my worst prediction of the weekend, Norwich didn’t look like creating at any point and Palace should have had at least one more. Zaha was by far the standout man for me. Deserved three points for Palace.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Southampton

I think everyone went into this match thinking this was an easy three points for Spurs against lower table opposition Southampton, here’s what happened :

Min 24, Son picks out Ndombele on the edge of the box who shoots through a crowd of players and past Gunn. 1-0

Min 39, massive mistake by Hugo Lloris who tries to do a Cruyff turn on his goal line but gets caught out by Ings who scores. 1-1

Min 43, great combination play by Eriksen who finds Kane on the penalty spot , he sets himself up and smashes it to the keeper’s near post on the half volley. 2-1

This game looked like a slam dunk for Spurs but an early sending off of Serge Aurier complicated things a little bit, the Saints could have and probably should have got a point but were denied by some fine saves from Lloris, probably the correct result, but Southampton will be feeling hard done by.

Wolves vs Watford

Both teams went into this one desperate for three points with neither team picking up a single win this season. Here’s what happened :

Min 18, Neto with a great low cross to Doherty who has a tap-in. 1-0

Min 61, cross in by Doherty who finds Jimenez, he knocks it straight on to the unsuspecting head of Darryl Jaanmat who puts it past his own keeper. 2-0

Wolves pick up their first three points of the season and they were deserved. Worrying signs for Watford as they lose another game and stay rock bottom of the table.

Everton vs Manchester City

This was one of the most exciting games of this weekend with this proving to be a real test for Pep’s Man City :

Min 24, De Bruyne with beautiful ball onto the head of Jesus who heads home. 0-1

Min 33, scramble in the City box that falls to Coleman who lifts it over Ederson onto the head of Calvert-Lewin who makes it 1-1

Min 71, free kick for City on the edge of the box. Mahrez steps up and slots if brilliantly to the keeper’s side. 1-2

Min 84, Aguero’s effort is saved by Pickford but straight into the path of Sterling who’s shot is deflected off the bar and goal line technology gives it. 1-3

This was a great game, full of chances, the standout man for me was Ederson who pulled of some brilliant saves when the game was at 1-2, City just about deserved the three points and Everton can hold their heads high after this clash with the Champions.

Leicester vs Newcastle United

Leicester were heavy favourites going into this game, but with Maddison ruled out with an injury this gave the Magpies some hope, here’s what went down :

Min 16, Pereira with a great 1-2 with Perez and he just runs with the ball, no one closes him down and he fires hard and low past Dubravka. 1-0

Min 54, Barnes finds Vardy who has a very tight angle to get the ball past Dubravka at his near post. Bad goalkeeping. 2-0

Min 57, Praet tries to cross the ball in but Dummett sticks out a leg and puts it past his own keeper. 3-0

Min 64, Albrighton with a brilliant cross to the far post to find an unmarked Jamie Vardy who scores. 4-0

Min 90, Chilwell puts a ball into the box that finds Ndidi who on the half turn manages to put the ball past Dubravka. 5-0

Leicester looked superb and after the sending off of Newcastle man Hayden they never looked like they were going to lose the game. They are definite contenders for that 4rth spot this season and look in great form. Newcastle just aren’t good enough right now.
